This is an Indonesian sterling silver sea turtle pendant with an intricate filigree shell — the carapace filled with flowing scrollwork and swirling botanical forms, the flippers and head solid and smooth by contrast, which makes the shell pattern really sing. Indonesian silver filigree work has a long and distinguished tradition, and this turtle is a lovely example: the scrollwork is detailed and even, the overall form is charming without being kitschy.
